After years of estrangement, Nancy reconnects with her son Daniel to try and lay the ghosts of the past to rest, but a choice she made long ago threatens to unravel everything.
Underneath is a short film in the horror/psychological thriller area. We've taken a break from creative shorts for a few years, but are looking to create another festival entry film. Our aim is to complete editing in time for the Autumn and Halloween festivals.
Our previous shorts have been screened at festivals and won/been nominated for awards for writing, direction, editing, Performance, Best Film and Audience Award.
Nancy: Lead, Female, 40-55
Preferred; Performer is happy to wear and put in contact lenses for a single shot. Contacts will be provided.
When she was a little girl, Nancy had all sorts of dreams for what her future would be, she could
be a Doctor, a best selling author, a lawyer no scratch that, a Judge, there was no glass ceiling
she wasn’t prepared to shatter. However, when she met Robert at community college, those
dreams could wait as the two of them fell hopelessly in love. While her friends tried to convince
her that Robert wasn’t worth wasting time on, Nancy was following her heart. The following
Spring, Nancy became pregnant and Robert dropped out of college to get a job, despite her best
efforts to balance education and pregnancy, Nancy fell behind with her studies and shortly before
she gave birth, she decided to resume college once the baby was a little older. She never
returned.
Shortly after her son was born (Daniel), it became clear that Nancy would have to do most of the
parenting herself as when Robert wasn’t working he could be found at his local pub until closing
time. The man who would return home each night was a far cry from the man she married, all his
kindness replaced with cruelty and anger. Around the time Daniel was 6 years old, Nancy and
Robert were involved in a car accident, despite the severity of the crash, Nancy walked away
practically unscathed, Robert wasn’t so lucky.
In the years that followed she became increasingly distant from her friends and family, her only
purpose became looking after Daniel, but as he got older his desire to see the world grew, and by
the time he was 18 he left for University to make something of himself. Leaving Nancy alone in an
empty house filled with memories.

Daniel: Supporting, Male, 25-35

old, he only has a handful of photos of him, and even fewer memories.
After a few difficult years, Daniel focused on his education, and once he left school he went to
college, followed by University. Unlike his late Father, Daniel wasn’t afraid to work hard, holding
down multiple jobs while attending University, this left little time for visits home or much else. By
the time he left Uni, he already had several promising job offers. Cut to present day, and Daniel is
a successful young man, engaged to be married, and with a bright future ahead of him. After
years of estrangement from his mother, a call in the dead of night forces him to return to his
childhood home.

Estimated payment amount: £300.00 for 2 days of work

Estimated payment amount: £150.00 for 6 hours of work
Daniel: Supporting
Estimated payment amount: £150.00 for 6 hours of work
Additional: We will be shooting over 2 days (a weekend) in August, in SE London. The female role will require both days filming, each male role will require one day filming. We are able to pay £150 + reasonable expenses per day.
